A Quiet 2007.
A car accident in late Nov. 2006 caused me to slow down and spend "lotsa" time healing, so there have not been many events this year.
However, enjoy this radio interview via internet audio streaming or say "hi" to me in November at the Southern Oregon Book and Author Fair:

ENJOY AN EVENING ON THE TOWN
There is a power and delight to well-crafted words. Yet why don't people give literary events credence in practice? When was the last time you and your family attended book readings at a bookstore, which are free? Yet how easily people plunk down $50.00 to attend a play, or $8.00 to watch a movie.
Why not begin considering literary events as entertainment, much as you might an evening at the theatre. Plan an "evening out" and enjoy dinner or drinks with friends before - or after - attending a book reading. Become familiar with the authors scheduled at your bookstores. Become familiar with local authors, be they writers of fiction, non-fiction or poetry. You'll be richer for it.
Fewer bookstores are offering even less time to scheduling author appearances. They say it "simply doesn't pay" because so often no one - or very few people - show up. There is time and effort and dollars involved for a store to have their staff do set up and promotion for these events. There are plentiful other tasks their staff might be doing.
A literary event is a wonderful way to spend an hour of your time. It is an easy way to support the arts and authors and your community stores. It is an easy way to meet writers with plentiful experiences to share.
